Where I’ve Been?
I began my counseling career in a community-based mental health agency right here in Sioux Falls. I fell in love with this work and got to help people from children to adult with all sorts of mental health concerns. My next position was in a primary care clinic where I learned how primary care is the frontline for mental health. I provided individual therapy, diagnostic assessments, crisis intervention, consulted with physicians, and even went into primary care visits when needed. Working hand-in-hand with primary care providers will always be near and dear to me. At the heart of that role was the desire to normalize mental health care, because treating anxiety (for example) is as common and necessary as treating a physical health issue.
Our Why.
Now, with the help of my partners, I have the remarkable opportunity to continue the important message of mental health normalcy throughout Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities. At Embark, we believe this is possible.
How I Help.
Throughout 10 years of practicing in the Sioux Falls area, I see kids whose feelings have gotten too big to manage themselves. These feelings can come out as excessive anger, tears, stomachaches, and sleep problems, which can affect home and school negatively. In teens, this could look like isolation, withdrawal, and changes in sleep patterns. Parents are worried, tired, and scared; they are unsure how to best help their child. Adulthood comes with wonderful things: marriage, children, and jobs. On the other hand, adulthood can bring stress and feelings of being overwhelmed, without a sense of balance or peace. Many storms occur along the way of adulthood: divorce, distance in relationships, parenting struggles, death, physical health concerns, and mental health concerns, to name a few. I meet with adults during these seasons of life.
I find value incorporating evidenced-based techniques into my therapeutic approach. A few of these techniques include: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques, Mindfulness and Relaxation techniques, Interpersonal Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and strength-based training. With clinical knowledge/skills, warm acceptance, and a splash of humor, I will walk with you towards the change you want to see in your world.
A Bit About Me.
I live in Sioux Falls with my husband, our two children, and our mini goldendoodle, Gabby. We love raising our kids in this city. I enjoy spending time with friends and family, running, and reading. I want to be a part of what makes this community great: people helping people, building trust through authentic listening and understanding, and working on progress over perfection.
